Description
SUMMARY: The Director of Sports Medicine & Head Athletic Trainer will direct the day-to-day sports medicine operations for the first, second, and academy teams. In this capacity, the Director of Sports Medicine & Head Athletic Trainer will provide injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for the players` medical problems. The Director of Sports Medicine & Head Athletic Trainer will work closely with the Director of Sports Performance on a daily basis. A year-round employee, will attend all training, scrimmages, home and away games
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
  2. Care for athletic injuries using physical therapy equipment, techniques, and medication.
  3. Evaluate athletes' readiness to play, and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
  4. Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces to body parts such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.
  5. Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians.
  6. Collaborate with physicians in order to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
  7. Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment.
  8. Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs.
  9. Develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance
  10. Travel with athletic teams in order to be available at sporting events.
  11. Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, and community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  12. Inspect playing fields in order to locate any items that could injure players.
  13. Conduct research and provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports medicine.
  14. Recommend special diets in order to improve athletes' health, increase their stamina, and/or alter their weight.
  15. Massage body parts in order to relieve soreness, strains, and bruises.
  16. Confer with coaches in order to select protective equipment.
  17. Accompany injured athletes to hospitals.
  18. Perform team-support duties such as running errands, maintaining equipment, and stocking supplies.
  19. Lead stretching exercises for team members prior to games and practices
  20. Special projects and assignments as business dictates
  21. Responsible for the maintenance, creation and control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies that you have access or knowledge of, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPPA.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor`s Degree from a four (4) year college/ university
  • Masters Degree in related health care field
  • Doctorate in Physical Therapy (Not required but preferred)
  • Minimum five (5) years certified athletic trainer experience in college/ professional sports setting
  • Work within soccer team sports at the college/ professional level (Preferred)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or feel.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.
  • Will work in all types of weather, including extreme heat and cold.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • NATABOC (or CATA) Certified Athletic Trainer
  • In good standing with NATABOC and a member of the NATA (or CATA)
  • State License in the state in which the team calls home, if required by the state
  • Current professional CPR/ First Aid/AED
  • Possess personal professional liability insurance
  • Possess a CSCS by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (Preferred)
  • Dry Needling Certified (Preferred)
