As part of the Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) team within the Mass General Development Office, the Director of Digital Communications is responsible for managing Mass General's Giving website and digital communications strategy. Reporting to the Senior Director of Digital, the Director oversees digital content production and execution across digital channels including social media, email, web and advertising. The Director manages one direct report.

The ideal candidate must be able to draw out compelling stories and distill divergent client input into clear and effective messaging and conceive of communications that advance fundraising priorities and reflect the Mass General brand. The Director consistently aligns content with hospital priorities, campaign messaging and brand standards.

We are looking for someone who is high energy, with superior listening, organizational and management skills; and a demonstrable track record of delivering marketing and communications solutions in a fast-paced, revenue generating organization. The ideal candidate must be results-driven and be able to distill data and metrics into actionable next steps and recommendations while being equally adept at working independently and collaborating as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop content strategy and manage editorial calendar for the Giving website, including identifying new content needed based on data, trends and fundraising priorities.
  • Work with Senior Director of Digital on strategy to drive increase in online donations and on new digital fundraising opportunities.
  • Consult on stories for the Giving website and ensure content conforms to AP and MGH style guidelines and brand guidelines as well as digital and SEO best practices.
  • Manage the digital publications strategy and oversee the production of Inside Mass General, the Mass General Development Office's primary electronic newsletter and the production of several customized newsletters for specific fundraising areas.
  • Develop and oversee the social media strategy for fundraising content, working in collaboration with MGB Social and Public Affairs teams and Senior Director of Digital Marketing.
  • Manage the production and distribution of digital content to support the marketing and outreach for fundraising campaigns, including repurposing content to fit in different digital mediums.
  • Collaborate directly with writers, photographers and designers to seek out and manage the production of digital content that illustrates and markets fundraising priorities.
  • Forge strong relationships with Development gift officers and their teams to anticipate their content needs and develop related solutions to meet them. Attend frontline fundraising team meetings as necessary.
  • Provide active management, mentorship and leadership to one full-time employee:
    • Conduct all appropriate evaluations, provide regular performance feedback, coaching and mentoring
    • Provide guidance in goal setting and in developing annual operating plans
    • Serve as an advocate and mentor, and encourage their professional development
    • Maintain updated job descriptions
    • Lead the recruitment process partnering with Talent Management and HR.
    • Attend department-wide Manager meetings, as needed
  • Assist other Development staff in proofing print and web content and in editing photography and images for use in digital mediums.
  • Collaborate with Mass General Marketing teams, Public Affairs and Human Resources teams on various hospital-wide marketing and communications projects.
  • Provide digital communication expertise, advise on best practices and ensure digital content conforms to AP and MGH style guidelines and brand guidelines.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Wordpress and Marketo and manage timely updates to websites and landing pages as appropriate.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Digital.
  • Prepare and regularly update progress reports.
  • Contribute to maintaining positive office morale, even in the face of high work volume and challenging periods.
  • Take on other office-wide duties at the request of Development leadership.
  • Adhere to the mission, credo, and standards of behavior of Mass General.
Qualifications

Qualifications

This position requires significant communications or marketing experience, a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7-10 years of related experience. Experience with content production in both print and digital arenas, medical/science editing and writing and a basic understanding of photography and graphic design is preferred. Also, the ideal candidate should possess the following skills, abilities and attributes:
