The Director of Principal & Major Gifts, NY Metro region is a unique position that will focus on building and developing a pipeline of major gift donors in the NY metro area as part of a focused philanthropic growth strategy for the hospital. This role will work in an entrepreneurial fashion to develop new networks and deepen the engagement of existing donors, building connections to a diverse group of sophisticated donors interested in pediatric health. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages a prospect pool of approximately 60-100 individuals capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more, and cultivates, solicits and closes $2m-$5m in revenue annually.
  • Strategic partner and fundraiser focused on increasing major gift philanthropic footprint nationally; will be primarily New York-based and oversee this regional work, representing priorities across the institution
  • Proven track record of building major and principal gift pipeline and revenue in new markets/regions
  • Must embody an entrepreneurial spirit and high level of sophistication in creating new philanthropic communities among highly influential individuals and families
  • Plans, coordinates and provides follow-up to high-level cultivation/strategic engagements and other special events for ultra high net worth individuals.
  • Creatively and persistently seeks connections to new prospects to qualify interest and capacity, and to build pipeline
  • Develops annual operating plan forecasting solicitations and visits for the NY Metro region, in consultation with the AVP for Principal & Major Gifts.
  • Builds and nurtures effective working relationships with colleagues, senior management, department chiefs, clinicians, researchers and volunteer leadership to identify funding needs
  • Creates a seamless, collaborative and thoughtful approach to working across different groups of people to successfully develop new opportunities for the hospital.
  • Develops an understanding of the breadth of research, clinical, teaching and community service programs of Children's Hospital and its departments.
  • Actively contributes to the principal and major gifts team; leads by example; collaborates across the Trust
  • Committed to professional growth through seminars, workshops, independent reading and professional affiliations.

Requirements:

  • BA degree and 8-10 years of related experience.
  • Academic hospital, university and/or graduate school fundraising experience preferred
  • Must be especially comfortable with cold outreach, boldly following leads, and employing creative strategies to develop a new market among ultra high-net worth individuals.
  • Demonstrated track record of building networks and closing major gifts outside of New England; strong fundraising experience in New York is preferable
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit and close six and seven figure gifts in a complex environment.
  • Work requires strong leadership, persuasion and negotiation skills.
