Overview

TRC seeks a Technical Senior Director to oversee and facilitate Clean Transportation Solution's growing fleet electrification and fleet transition advisory services. TRC seeks candidates with experience and expertise supporting organizations with understanding and navigating the electric vehicle and infrastructure landscape, particularly in the context of medium/heavy-duty vehicles and California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations. This position will have the opportunity to work with a broad range of fleets, including many of the country's largest and most progressive fleets, to deploy new and innovative clean transportation technologies in the US. The Director will oversee and collaborate with the Fleet Electrification Manager, as well as build out technical and staff resources to enhance the group's fleet electrification services. The Director will also be asked to consider and incorporate assessment of other technologies including hydrogen fuel cells, microgrids, and other technologies of interest to fleets as they seek practical solutions to their operational and economic needs. The work is challenging, broad in scope, and variable from project to project.

TRC's clean transportation solutions group maintains a diverse set of clients, ranging from commercial fleets to policy makers and environmental advocacy organizations. Our Technical Services team provides an equally diverse set of capabilities to our clients, including emissions modeling, lifecycle analysis, vehicle and technology certification, technical and economic feasibility assessments, policy analysis, charging/fueling infrastructure assessments, technology planning, and more. Candidates must have a "can-do" spirit to take on new challenges, an ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges, and a willingness to work in a deadline-driven environment. Responsibilities

  • Lead fleet electrification team in developing and refining technical approaches and tools to enhance group's fleet electrification assessment These tools will include, but are not limited to, new or improved energy demand/duty cycle models, charge management strategies, infrastructure cost models, and electricity cost models.
  • Maintain an understanding of market forcing regulations and policies through participation in relevant working group meetings, webinars, and other elements of the regulatory development process (EPA, CARB, etc.).
  • Facilitate maintenance of up-to-date market information on available vehicles, charging equipment, and business models (e.g., Charging as a Service) through industry relationships and continuous learning/market engagement.
  • Provide QA/QC of final work products to clients to ensure clients are receiving effective, high-quality deliverables.
  • Champion and coordinate new business development for the fleet electrification team, including supporting preparation of proposals and development of strategic initiatives within TRC
  • Initiate and support Business Development efforts (prospecting, scope of work and budget development, etc.) to engage new clients and repeat business with existing clients related to fleet electrification.
  • Oversee and take responsibility for the team's completion of projects on time and on budget.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Research: Conduct primary and secondary research on a broad spectrum of market, technical, and policy issues and assist in the development and production of memorandums and reports which provide this research to either specific or broad audiences.
  • Communications: Prepare regular memos on project status for clients and for staff. Create publication-quality and client-ready written reports, marketing materials, correspondence, grant applications, presentations, and other communications that clearly and concisely summarize project goals, accomplishments and recommendations in the most compelling manner for the appropriate audience.
  • Client Relations: Professionally interact with industry contacts and clients on a regular basis, understand their business needs, provide consistent and well-prepared status reports on deliverables, manage and address unexpected developments, and communicate research and recommendations in a confidence-inspiring manner.
  • Project management: Provide efficient and cost-effective results on both client and company projects. Must be capable of independently setting, tracking, and reporting on progress related for multiple project and billable hour goals. Must regularly report on progress, challenges, and approach to team leaders and management.
  • Outreach and Organization: Develop and implement strategies to communicate the objective of projects to diverse audiences, including business, government, non-profit organizations, and community groups. Interface directly with a variety of contacts to gather and organize information for various projects.

Qualifications

  • Education: A BS or higher degree in a related engineering field from an accredited university. Candidates without degrees will only be considered if they possess an exemplary record of success, leadership, and expertise relevant to our needs.
  • Professional Experience: At least ten years of experience in advanced clean transportation technologies in a consulting environment or demonstrated capabilities in a commercial setting. The right candidate will demonstrate a clear history of initiative, problem-solving, and results-driven excellence in all personal, academic, and professional endeavors. Advanced degrees (MS or PhD) will be considered when evaluating professional experience history.
  • Skills: Exceptional writing, research, analytical, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. In addition to a strong technical/analytical background and strong communications skills, an excellent grasp of business strategy will be highly valued.
  • Expertise: Technical and analytical expertise in commercial vehicle technology and environmental regulations and emission standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with clients and potential clients is critical.
  • Interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial thinkers capable of communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences will thrive in our office and with our clients.
  • Language: Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Ability to Travel: Travel may be required, up to 15%.

Work Location: Remote or Santa Monica, CA (hybrid)

In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $120,000-$150,000 a year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
