Job Description

Position Description:

The MP/FP Estimator assists with a variety of MP/FP estimating and preconstruction tasks, moving into additional responsibility as training progresses. The MP/FP Estimator will understand and promote BOND's Estimating Standard Operating Procedures, including but not limited to; estimate development scheduling, estimate formats, IT tools, strategic selection of subcontractors, and purchasing support. The MEP Estimator will need to analyze an array of construction documents, specifications, proposals, and other project documentation in order to produce a Best in Class estimate in response to a Client's request and expectation. The MP/FP Estimator will be expected to work directly with Clients, Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors, and Suppliers to develop and/or nurture existing business relationships.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Create bid invites and send out to chosen subcontractor lists.
  • Follow-up with subs and vendors, including by phone.
  • Attend Jobsite Walk Throughs to review existing conditions
  • Review plans, specifications RFI's, schedules, and other documents to understand a project's requirements.
  • Document management.
  • Perform takeoffs using OST (onscreen takeoff).
  • Populate estimate in Excel or Sage.
  • Create detailed estimates without the use of specialty mechanical or electrical estimating software.
  • Create scope sheets for vendors and subs - Including detailed general requirements not otherwise documented for MP/FP trades.
  • Review scopes in meetings with subcontractors, design teams, and clients - including negotiating scope modifications to suit the project needs for MP/FP trades.
  • Evaluate pricing and scope to produce a complete scope and purchase - including negotiating final scope and buy values for MP/FP trades.
  • Complete Bid Books for pricing lump sum work.
  • Extrapolate QTO and pricing for simple schematic or conceptual pricing for MEP trades.
  • Assist in the preparation of studies, materials, methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required.
  • Assist in developing scope and procurement for pre-purchased equipment.
  • Coordinate and manage meetings during the estimating process, and as needed during preconstruction.
  • Familiar with trades covered as the Subject Matter Experts (e.g. Electrical).
  • Support Value Management pricing.
  • Support Reconciliation efforts during preconstruction.

Qualifications:

  • S. in either Mechanical or Electrical engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical training and/or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the regional construction market and a keen understanding of costs and pricing.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, flexible, and able to effectively multitask while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have excellent time management and prioritization skills. For example - Proficiency at prioritizing tasks, managing multiple deadlines, determining level of priority and estimate detail and use experience to determine appropriate levels of efficiency and accuracy.
  • If the employee does not currently have OSHA 10 safety training, they will be required to acquire it.

  • Excel fluency.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and may lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. The employee will occasionally be required to attend and move through active construction sites (e.g. uneven terrain, climb ladders, step or even climb over obstacles, etc.).
