Do you have experience directly supporting children's social and emotional needs by implementing positive interventions in a nurturing environment? Are you looking for an opportunity at our Summer Camps to use your skills and knowledge by ensuring an inclusive environment for all children regardless of their abilities? This may be an opportunity for you!

As a Camp Inclusion Technician, you will help implement behavior and inclusion plans developed for individual children to ensure each child in our Camp programs is allowed to reach his/her full potential. On a regular day, you will be working at one of our multiple camp locations; Marblehead's Children's Island, Camp Trickling Falls in New Hampshire for our Haverhill and Plaistow locations, Ipswich's Camp Cidermill, Beverly's Camp Sterling Woods, Salem's Camp Habor Quest and Cape Ann's Camp Spindrift! You will implement plans and directly support youth programming, monitor behavior, document and communicate observations, and collaborate as part of a team. The Camp Inclusion Technician monitors for patterns, supports the implementation of social and emotional curriculum, works with individual students while modeling expectations, and teaches social/emotional skills. Additionally, you will support an inclusive and positive environment by incorporating appropriate modifications and accommodations and encouraging a learning environment for staff and students.

To thrive in this role, you have experience working with vulnerable populations and diverse abilities and have implemented behavior plans in an educational or recreational setting. You have an understanding of varying strategies and approaches to social-emotional learning and the ability to implement and guide best practices with a flexible teaching style. You can identify and understand the cause and motivation of events and actions about child behavior and have sound judgment in response to the unexpected.

Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older.

  • Having completed a child growth and development course and 3 years experience working with youth or an Associates Degree in a youth service or related field and 2 years experience working with youth.

  • Previous experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

  • Ability to implement appropriate child safety plans.

  • Knowledge of child development and social/emotional health

  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and appropriate response when working with children, families, and staff in program settings.

  • This is a 12 week program from mid June to the end of August.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Must provide and maintain documents and certifications as required by the YMCA and any applicable licensing agency.

  • Must complete all trainings, certifications and program orientation in accordance with our local licensing authority and the YMCA of the North Shore.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to move, bend, twist and reach to ensure a safe environment for children.
  • Must be able to react quickly to the unpredictable actions of youth.
