Overview

We're seeking an experienced Security Systems Engineer to be an integral part of TRCs Security and Emergency Management practice and a trusted member of a team responsible for supporting our government and commercial sector clients. In this role you will participate in assessing, recommending, designing, and improving physical security measures at Critical Infrastructure facilities nationally. The successful candidate will build upon a solid engineering foundation and apply this knowledge in a physical security setting to address various types of vulnerabilities. The ability to work as part of a coordinated, diverse team is critical.

TRC offices in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, West Coast, or Southeast are preferred, but other locations in the lower 48 states may be considered for this position. This position can be based primarily at your home, in one of over 120 TRC offices in the US or some hybrid approach.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in security assessments and develop security standards/specifications, master plans, and similar documents in collaboration with other team members and clients
  • Have a working knowledge of electrical design concepts and standards.
  • Develop security designs and prepare construction documentation, such as drawings and specifications for electronic security systems (video, access control, intrusion detection, etc.).
  • Work with the various law enforcement agencies as required
  • Author reports, technical memos, and other deliverables
  • Interact with a diverse set of clients including government agency personnel, public officials, business, and nonprofit staff
  • Travel throughout the U.S. (travel estimated at 5-10% of the year)
  • Participate in marketing TRC's services to clients and responses to RFQ/RFPs.

Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. An inquisitive tendency, as well as the interest in protecting people and facilities from harm are also important qualities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering or systems design (or similar) with professional registration (PE, NICET, etc.)
  • 8 or more years of experience
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Experience with computer-aided analysis and design tools
  • Ability to work with design team that will produce drawings in electronic format (e.g. - AutoCAD) and/or the ability to generate documents in AutoCAD
  • Previous experience designing electronic security systems (video, access control, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of any of the major security platforms and systems (Genetec, Avigilon, Honeywell, Milestone, LenelS2, ExacqVision, Axis Communications, etc.)
  • Experience with development of performance standards and specifications for security systems
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and low voltage standards
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a larger team to support business objectives
  • Work closely with government emergency management, law enforcement and security agencies
  • Ability to travel periodically to meet client and project needs
  • Ability to work in commercial and industrial settings and follow strict safety protocols
  • Fluent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to pass multiple detailed background checks (including criminal history) and drug screening
  • US Citizen, with current driver's license and ability to travel by air, bus, train, etc.
  • Proficiency with standard MS Office tools, laptop computers, and/or related tools
  • The ability to occasionally walk and/or stand for extended periods of time, often in outdoor environments
  • Basic business acumen and the ability to understand, support and grow client relationships

Additional Valued Skills:

  • Certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) via ASIS International or similar
  • Bi-or multi-lingual skills
  • Certifications such as CPTED, CBCP, RCDD, CSPM or in other related areas
  • Knowledge of fire/life safety systems and standards
  • Knowledge of communications systems

In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $100,000-$150,000. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
