The Leadership Division of the Aspen Institute builds off its 70-year history of developing leaders across generations and place to become more effective, values-based leaders. Today, the Division supports the life-long development of leaders through the Aspen Global Leadership Network, Executive & custom Leadership Seminars, and Weave: The Social Fabric Project, which focuses on social trust and grassroots community leaders.

The Development Intern works with the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Engagement, as well as the Development Associate, to support the fundraising and research capabilities of the Leadership Division. This will be a temporary (3-4 month) position that supports the philanthropic donor development process. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Managing systems and processes used to track donors, prospects, and philanthropic engagement across the Division, with a focus on data tracking and rectification in the Salesforce database.
  • Researching, organizing, and evaluating prospects' financial capacity, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the mission of the Institute and specific leadership programs.
  • Assisting with compiling and organizing any briefing and/or research materials for meetings.
  • Producing thorough reports and prospect briefings for the use of the leadership programs prior to donor outreach and engagement.
  • Creating target lists that align the mission of philanthropists and foundations to leadership programs.
  • Mapping relationships between current supporters, Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellows and program allies to identify connections to prospective funders and stakeholders.
  • Proactively monitoring online subscriptions, such as Chronicle of Philanthropy and Inside Philanthropy, for updates on foundations and philanthropic opportunities in alignment with the leadership division.
  • Working closely with the Development Associate to help organize and manage development-related files in the leadership division database.
  • Attending select internal meetings, taking minutes, and tracking and facilitating follow through on next steps.

Position Reports to: Development Associate, Leadership Division

The Institute has implemented a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all employees who will work at one of our physical locations, attend any of our in-person events or travel on behalf of the Institute. Staff unable to be vaccinated may request an exemption under certain circumstances.
